Why Being Involved In Our Community Matters

Being involved in our community is something we believe we should always make time for.

In March, we had the honor of hosting our friends from the Indy Chamber Ambassador program and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana (BBBSCI) to have lunch and connect. While we enjoy sharing the exciting things happening at Counterpart, it always makes it extra special to us when we are able to share the impact we can have in the community with our partners at BBBSCI and the Indy Chamber. It was exciting to not only bring awareness to an important cause but to say thank you for everything the ambassadors do for our fellow Indy Chamber members.  (It was really incredible to learn that several ambassadors were or have been Bigs!)

We enjoyed delicious catering from local Indy Chamber Member, BiBiBop, while we chatted about some of the ways Counterpart has solved business challenges and seized opportunities with software.  However, we also focused on and shared the story of our partnership with BBBSCI. It was a walk down memory lane.

We began supporting BBBSCI in 2014. However, it was in 2015 when we were able to seize an opportunity to grow their individual donor base with an innovative peer to peer fundraising platform for GivingTuesday. From 2015 to 2019, we were able to help increase their individual donors by over 4,200 while raising nearly $500k. (Here’s a summary of how successful their campaign has been.) Then in 2016, we continued our collaboration and launched The Big App, a mobile platform that helps mentors approach their mentoring time with greater intentionality. To top that off, they were able to allow other Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies to license to use it. Ultimately, though, it was also great to learn about the incredible impact BBBSCI is having on our youth.

This group knows more than many that actions speak louder than words. Because when you put actions behind your words, you get to watch amazing things happen. Taking the time to invest and be active in your community builds foundations, makes connections, creates opportunities, and paves a path to success for others. That’s what the Indy Chamber Ambassadors and BBBSCI are all about.

The Indy Chamber Ambassador program is a great way to get connected and engaged with the Indy Chamber. This group of volunteer leaders engages with Indy Chamber members through volunteering at events, attending ribbon cuttings and grand openings, and welcoming new members! If your company is an Indy Chamber member and you are willing to volunteer around seven hours a month, you can reach out here.

BBBSCI serves more than 1,280 youth annually, ages 8 – 18 in Hamilton, Johnson, and Marion Counties. They partner with parents/caregivers, volunteers, schools, and the donors in our community to defend, ignite, and empower the potential of every child by creating and supporting one-to-one mentoring relationships. Their vision is that all youth achieve their full potential. If you’d like to learn more about how you can get involved, you can learn more here.
