We are excited to showcase an employee each month! We have some pretty great people here at Counterpart, why not share the wealth? This month, we are showcasing one of our developers and partners, Tyler Smith!

What do you do at Counterpart?

Mostly software development, but also mentoring new developers, and helping out anywhere I can as a partner.

What inspires you?

Coming up with creative new solutions.

What’s the best thing about your job?

Working from home, flexible hours, doing work that I enjoy and that I feel I’m good at.

What has been your favorite project so far?

A very tough question since I’ve been on dozens of projects.  Working with Statistics Solutions was perhaps at the top of my list, it had a lot going for it: Clients who were great to work with, it used different technology than I was used to so kept me on my toes, and the product itself was fascinating to me.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I’m pretty open with those who know me, but I suppose I have enjoyed two decently unusual activities: I really enjoyed and was quite decent at fencing back in high school, and currently, I am not only playing but also teaching the card game
bridge to newer players.

What are three words you would use to describe Counterpart?

Smart, Flexible, Honest

What is your proudest moment at Counterpart?

As a single moment, perhaps taking ownership with Jason and Matt back in 2013.  In general, continuing to have success since then, and our rebranding as
Counterpart.  Seeing our “We love what we do, but we really love what we can do together” video for the first time was also a very proud moment – even though
I had nothing to do with the making of the video!

What are your hobbies outside of work?

Computer gaming, playing and teaching bridge, and who doesn’t love a good Netflix binge?

If you could visit anywhere in the world you’ve never been, where would you go?

London perhaps, but I am already planning that trip! Australia would be another fun place.

If you could pick one superpower, what would it be?

Teleportation

What are three material things you couldn’t live without?

Food, water, shelter? Okay, you want the geeky answers:

  1. High-Speed Internet
  2. Cell phone
  3. Computer for work (…and gaming)

What is your favorite tv show/movie and/or book?

I really enjoy the sci-fi genre in general. For the book, I’ll go with Ender’s Game. For a TV show…maybe the Stargate series (SG1/Atlantis).
