The people who stay
About Counterpart

People stay here.
So do our clients.

We're a passionate team of visionary thinkers, geeks, techies, and innovators who love what we do. We've been building custom software in Fishers, Indiana since 1993, and many of us have spent whole careers here. We're people-first, business-minded, and quality-forward, and it starts with the people we work with.

01 How we got here

Our journey, year by year.

No pivots, no reinventions, no starting over. The same shop, compounding for three decades in the same corner of Indiana.

1993

Counterpart begins

Three engineers out of AT&T Bell Labs found WDD Software on a simple belief: technology should solve real business problems. The first client was Bell Labs itself.

2000s

The long careers start

Matt, Tyler, and Jason are hired straight out of college. All three still work here, and always have.

2013

A new generation of leadership

Jason, Matt, and Tyler become owners, and Drew joins the leadership team to guide the transition. The next chapter starts from the inside.

2013

Growing beyond a small team

As WDD keeps expanding, the team reaches ten people, an early milestone in the steady growth and stability that still define the company.

2014

Culture becomes the advantage

The company rethinks what work can look like: unlimited PTO, flexible schedules, and accountability to results instead of hours.

2014

The first Donut Run

A Valentine’s Day idea becomes a tradition: dozens of donuts delivered to local organizations, and a community habit that continues today.

2017

WDD becomes Counterpart

The new name is the promise: the long-term software counterpart to the organizations we serve.

2023

Growing again

The team doubles in size over just a few years while keeping the culture and the client relationships intact.

Today

Three decades of partnership

120+ custom systems, top-ten clients who’ve stayed an average of nine years, and new faces learning from people who never left.

02 Why tenure matters

What staying power buys you.

Custom software is a long-term relationship that starts with a project. The build takes months; the system runs for a decade. Who answers the phone in year five matters more than any line on a proposal.

The names stay on your project

Your system gets dedicated owners, backed by a team that holds the context with them. When you call in year five, you aren't starting over with strangers.

Your business stays learned

You explain how your operation works once. Nobody re-onboards a fresh team every year, so the understanding compounds instead of leaking away.

Stewardship is the business model

Most of our work comes from clients we've served for years. Our incentive is your system running well for a long time, because that's how we grow.

Meet the whole team.

The people who design, build, test, and run Counterpart, four of whom own it. We've kept each start year, because how long people stay is rather the point.
